A Transport card is a plastic card used to pay the fare for public transport (bus, trolleybus, tram, subway). This card has a built-in microprocessor that contains information about both the quantity of prepaid trips and about the benefits applying to its holder. During travel, the trip fare is debited from the card with the help of contactless terminals.
The Transport card may be made
- in the form of a contactless smart card, containing only a transport application for paying the journey fares on public transport, according to algorithms held within the integrator
- in the form of a social, bank or other kind of a card, carrying the transport application. In this case it will also contain the corresponding private data of the owner
- in the form of an NFC-application within a mobile phone.
The implementation of transport cards allows the transport operator to obtain accurate and up to date operational information regarding the passenger traffic on all routes, to gather statistics and with the means to control their costs more effectively.
We offer
- transport cards based on the most popular world standard: Mifare. NovaCard is certified to produce the Mifare Classic, Mifare Plus S-2K, and Mifare X-2K contactless smart cards.
- solutions for journey payment using more complex smart cards containing several applications: bank, transport, medical, social etc.
- solutions for running transport applications on an NFC SIM-card in a mobile phone.
Benefits of NFC for the transport operator
- Launch of innovative services using existing infrastructure
- Process optimisation:
- Immediate subscription acceptance and distribution “over the air”
- reduction in cost of consumables (there is no paper, plastic, or need for physical distribution)
- remote and secure management of subscription life cycles
- Interactivity
- Scalable model of interaction (smooth integration of new participants)
Advantages of “Transport cards” for the project participants and for passengers:
- The system allows for the implementation of flexible fare systems discounts for passengers
- The system allows for assessing the level of travel at different costs so it becomes possible to implement a flexible tariff policy, taking into consideration the demand from, and capabilities of, all strata of society, allowing the design of attractive fare packages for passengers.
- There is the opportunity to determine total passenger traffic volumes in real time (contrast that with monthly paper season tickets) and accurately matched to each bus stop. On the basis of this data it is possible to redistribute rolling-stock across routes and at different times of day to provide for maximum satisfaction of passenger demand.
- 100% security against the use of counterfeit tickets.
- Simplifies and speeds up fare payment.
- Provides the conditions for reducing the flow of actual cash, increasing financial discipline and allowing transport companies to save money in cash handling (collection and processing).
